Galbenu Lake is a fairytale place located in Mălaia commune, Vâlcea county. It is an accumulation lake that feeds Vidra Lake, one of the many tourist spots in Transalpina. About Lacul Galbenu
Galbenu Lake is an accumulation lake, located in the Latoriței Mountains. It can be easily reached by car from Râmnicu Vâlcea, following the route Călimănești – Brezoi – Mălaia – Ciunget – Latoriței Valley (upstream) – Petrimanului Gorges – Petrimanu Lake – Galbenu Lake.
Galbenu Lake can be reached from the Tudor Petrimanu Tourist Chalet on the forest road with a length of 4 km.
Galbenu lake is located at an altitude of 1304 m, between Mount Bălescu and Mount Galbenu, with an area of 17 ha and a depth of 49 m. It is a quiet area where you can relax with your family and break away from the crowds. and the bustle of the big cities. On Galbenu Lake, there is also a dam, which captures the waters and has a height of 60 meters. The dam is made of double-arched concrete with a usable volume of 1.8 million cubic meters. The water from Galbenu Lake is transferred to Vidra Lake through a natural fall (gravitational capture).
