About The Milk Cave

The Milk Cave is a place with an exciting story that attracts many tourists. Fossils of small animals disappeared more than 50,000 years ago, and ceramic fragments, relics of the Glina Culture, were discovered in this place. All these are exhibited at the History Museum of Vâlcea County.

The name Milk cave comes from the white solubilized calcite flows (parietal flows). They impregnate the interior walls and floor boulders in some places. You will notice that the cave walls appear to be embroidered with tiny white concretions. The length of the cave is 22 meters, ending with a small pool of water. You can go through the gallery without any problem. The Milk Cave was the Speological Circle “Nyphargus” from Râmnicu Vâlcea. Ghiță Pricopie was the one who published the obtained results. What is interesting about the cave is that just a few meters away from the cave are two other small grottoes.

From the village of Ciungetu, it is 4 km to the shelter. From the base of the hill to the cave is about 30-4o minutes. You will find many small waterfalls created by poi and tiny springs along the route. It’s a relaxing walk through nature that will help you disconnect from your problems.
